There should be more stories of growth and accomplishment like Debbie Berling’s in the field of health care management and, specifically, in the field of geriatrics! Read further and you’ll see.

Mrs. Berling is currently the Executive Vice-President of Regional Operations for Carespring Health Care Management, overseeing eight facilities in Ohio and Kentucky. She oversees operations that include 7 site administrators, 50 department heads, 100 supervisors and over 1200 employees.

Debbie began her career working in an Intensive Care Unit and trained in Advance Cardiac Life Support. She had the boldness early on to take on new challenges and made the leap into the field of geriatrics in 1990. Once she was in Long Term Care, she grew as a manager and became certified in Gerontology.

Much of Mrs. Berling’s formative experiences as a leader were built when she was appointed Director of Nursing for an area nursing home. 2 years later, she began serving in the same capacity at Eastgate Health Care Center, a position she held for 10 years.

During her tenure as DON at Eastgate, Debbie’s potential for leadership was quickly recognized. Carespring CEO Barry Bortz took notice and began mentoring her to further develop this

potential. Upon completing her Bachelor’s Degree, she became an Administrator-in-Training. This led to her promotion to the position of Site Administrator at Eastgate in 1999, which found Debbie leading a team of 8 direct reports, 25 department heads and over 210 employees. Her success at Eastgate propelled her into the position of Executive Vice President of Regional Operations, facilitating Carespring’s daily operations.

Mrs. Berling holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Mt. St. Joseph’s College with a major in Gerontology and Long-term Care Administration, and is a Registered Nurse in both Ohio and Kentucky. She also holds Nursing Home Administrator’s licenses in both Ohio and Kentucky. She’s been a registered nurse for 18 years, a wife for 33 years, a mother for 30 years, and, as she likes to be called, a “young grandmother” for 13 years. She delights in the knowledge that Carespring’s mentoring programs offer similar opportunities to the many young employees in the Carespring family.
