Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Your Loved One

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s not an uncommon time for seniors to feel a little lonely, especially if they’ve recently lost a loved one or spouse. However, Valentine’s Day can be a great opportunity to celebrate all special relationships. Whether it’s celebrating with a treat, or finding some time to make a Valentine’s craft, there are many ways to make the day feel special for your loved one.

Decorate Your Space

Even if you don’t get excited about Valentine’s Day, it’s still a great excuse to decorate your space. Visit your local shop to choose your favorite Valentine’s Day related decorations. Heart shaped banners, streamers in red and pink, or anything with lace will make your apartment or house feel festive. This can be a great social activity to do together with friends and family.

When you think of Valentine’s Day, candy and sweets might have come to mind. Baking with your loved one can be a great way to spend the afternoon together. Whether you like cookies or cake, you find a recipe to inspire you here. You might consider doing all of your shopping beforehand so your senior has enough energy to help bake. Also consider what might be difficult for your loved one and provide alternatives. For example, if your senior suffers from arthritis, make sure all tops to spices and other ingredients are loosened or pre-measured before baking.

Make Cards

Spread the love by making Valentine’s Day cards for your friends and family. Make your cards even more special by writing something you love about your friend or family member on their cards. You might consider adding a special heart-shaped treat or your favorite picture together to accompany the card.

Have a Movie Night

There’s no better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than watching your favorite romantic comedy. Make it special with your favorite treats and snacks, and even a glass of wine. Turn on your favorite streaming service and get your movie started!

Play Your Favorite Games

If you’re celebrating the day with a large group, plan on bringing your favorite board games to keep everyone entertained. Whether it’s playing a card game or working on a Valentine’s Day puzzle, games are a great way to stay mentally stimulated, while socializing with your loved one.
